Tea Party

Okay this "tea party" thing is hilarious to me! How in the heck are you calling yourself protesting President Obama's overspending and the fact that you are overtaxed...and yet these are all policies put into place by your beloved George W. Bush???

I was reading the news and they were talking about people at the tea parties with their anti-Obama signs, and they're saying they're tired of being overtaxed and watching companies get bailed out with their tax dollars. Guess who was so quick to hand that money out to AIG...and look how well that worked out? That was still under Bush's administration. Oh, and can anyone say "golden parachutes"???

I rest my case.

Happy Monday!!

It's 8 days before the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama.
Let me just say this as uncooth and politically incorrect as possible: I believe that this man has a fair chance at doing an excellent job running this country! I don't give a rat's ass about how little experience he has!! George W. Bush went straight from no political office to governor of Texas...to the White House! Look how well that catastrophe walking turned out!!!! One of the reasons I was so excited about Mr. Obama is that he hasn't been "tainted" by the quid pro quo bullshit in politics! And as far as the absolute morons who keep claiming Obama is the anti-christ:

GET A LIFE!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE DIRECTION THINGS ARE HEADED, EITHER MOVE TO CANADA OR MEXICO...OR SEND YOURSELF TO HEAVEN NOW!!! (that is, IF you're really going there)

Okay, now that that's off my chest, I feel much better! If I offended anyone...toughen up!!! Life is not for the weak at heart!!!!

In other news:

I am getting uber-excited about our trip to Memphis this weekend...me and the kids that is! This upcoming weekend is Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Holiday, so what better time than a 3day weekend to go? And, by taking my bunch with me...I completely bypass the whole issue of babysitting! Plus, they missed out on any road trips this summer due to mommy's financial status. They are totally excited about it too. All I need is gas money there and back basically. I know how to travel cheap! I can cook meals and we can drive around and sightsee and little bit for free. Then later, when it's warmer, I can take them back there with more money and really make a time of it.

Yes, yes...I am excited about seeing my punkin again. I got spoiled when he was home for a week and a half! I basically saw him everyday! I LOVED IT!!! To think this way, I will have 3 nights to sleep with him and wake up to him...heaven!!!

Alright, time for dinner...but I will have a fabulous update for you Wednesday!

Sarah Palin...Just as Catty as I Suspected!

This story was released on the AP today:

Legislative panel: Palin abused authority

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner.

The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.

The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.

Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

Politics Posting

Warning: If you really believe the economy is "fundamentally strong", love the thought of a "pitbull with lipstick", and are ok with a 'regular guy' wearing $500 loafers and being unsure of how many houses he owns....this is where you should stop reading!

So riddle me this: Who wants a president that can handle more than one thing at a time? Please raise your hands. (solo-mommy raises her hand) So then someone explain to me why John McCain wants to cancel the debates again? I mean, surely we can't be in an economic crisis now Sen. McCain! According to you and your prez, the economy is strong! Now, all of a sudden 6 weeks before the election, you want to suspend campaigning to focus on a bipartisan solution to this crisis?? I don't who told you that was a good idea, but you should have gotten a few outside opinions! As a solo-mommy (ie, President and Commander-in-Chief of my home), it is imperative that I am multi-tasking at all times. As a matter of fact, I don't know that I could turn it off if I wanted to! I can cook, clean, oversee homework, watch a show, and surf online...all pretty much simultaneously. So why can't McCain work on this issue AND campaign for president?

And Please don't get me started about this bailout that could still net these crooked-, greedy-, and shady-ass CEOs millions for running their companies into the ground!!!!

Every Day Is A Blessing

Just remember that. Every now and then, I will actually look at the news on cnn.com just to see what's going on. Honestly, I started out trying to check on the New Hampshire caucus to see if Senator Obama was the frontrunner, as he was in Iowa. The headline at the very top of the site was the just published autopsy results for slain hiker Meredith Emerson, and that caught my attention. They think she was alive for three days before the nutcase killed her with blunt force trauma to the head...oh yeah, then decapitated her!! Sick bastard! But, he only agreed to tell them where the body was after the DA's office promised not to seek the death penalty. Now, watch they hold up their end of the bargain, and he gets to sit up in prison and get free degrees and free cable and free meals and free gym memberships...ON MY DIME!!!
What I hope happens is, the other cases that they may link him to (like the fact that a couple in another were killed hiking and this killer was seen in the guy's jacket AND was using the couple's ATM card), they find him guilty and give him the death penalty on one of those!!

From there, I clicked on a link that says this: Suspect: God made me kill, cook girlfriend

WTF!!!!!! This 25-year old killed his 21-year old girlfriend, mutilated her body, then...are you ready for this....cooked and ate part of her body!!!!! I can't even say anymore about that one, because it is so deplorable, but here's the cnn link.

There is just no time for being fearful. There is no time for proscrastinating. There is no time for self-doubt. There is no time for insecurity about your abilities to create a better world and life for yourself. Tomorrow could be it for you, then what?? Will you have everything accomplished? If not, there's no time like the present! Here's something you may not have known.

You ready for this mind-altering piece of info? You sure? Okay...don't say I didn't warn you:

YOU ARE GOING TO DIE SOMEDAY!!!

Whether you like it or not, you will die. Everyone you know and love will die. There is no getting around it. There is no sense fearing the inevitable. I mean sure, we all want it to be when we are old, but the reality is....that's not the case for everyone. Now that you know that, you have a choice. You can be afraid of dying to the point that you are crippled with fear, or you can accept the fact that you will die...and start LIVING. Guess which one I decided to be? Have you seen the previous posts noting how many times I could have died?? Go here and here for a refresher. I lived in fear for awhile of leaving my four children to be orphans, and yes it was sometimes crippling. It had even contributed to my depression. Guess what? A lady at work lost her 36 year old sister within the last month, and she left 8 kids behind! That was a swift kick in the ass for me to get over myself, and enjoy the gift of life...we only get ONE SHOT. Make it count.

So, I have a conference call at 8p, on how to become unstoppable. I have a few more conference calls throughout this month. I will be emailing the chapter president of my host agency to find out about meetings or networking events or whatever information she can give me to further my travel agency business. I will also get my materials together to start getting me some business clients for StarrDom. I will meet with SCORE for help in business plan creation, marketing, and anything else I may need.

When I die, I want it to be on my feet (and in motion), NOT on my knees! (paraphrased from The Kingdom)

Quote for the Day

"I'm well aware that my opponents on both sides are paying a lot more attention to me. I'm reminded by some of my friends that when you get to be my age, having so many men paying attention to you is kind of flattering." Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton

I love that!! To see the full article click here.

Another interesting article I read the other day on CNN.com regarding Barack Obama and his chance with the black community. It was very enlightening. You'll find that article here.
Basically the article is stating that he needs to count on more than just the color of his skin to get our vote. He is very charismatic, but also not very passionate when he is speaking on the issues. Me, personally, I need to feel that you care what you are talking about. Haven't gotten that yet.

At this point, I would surely be voting for Sen. Clinton. Hey, I can do that! I AM a double minority, remember?

Yeah.....We Suck

The United States is one of only five countries that does not provide or require employers to provide some form of paid maternity leave, placing it behind a majority of the world when it comes to instituting family-oriented job policies, according to a new study. In a study from McGill University's Institute for Health and Social Policy , the United States, Lesotho [where?], Liberia, Swaziland [is this one for real?], and Papua New Guinea were the only countries out of 173 studied that didn't guarantee any paid leave for mothers. Among the 168 countries that do, 98 offer 14 or more weeks of paid leave.

Overall, the study's other major findings indicate that workplace policies in the United States for families — such as paid sick days and support for breast-feeding — are weaker than those in all high-income countries as well as many middle and low-income countries.

"More countries are providing the workplace protections that millions of Americans can only dream of," Jody Heymann, director of McGill's Institute for Health and Social Policy, who led study, said in a statement. At least 145 countries provide paid sick days for short- and long-term illnesses, with 127 countries providing for a week or more every year, the study found. In addition, 137 countries require its employers to provide paid annual leave, whereas the Unites States does not guarantee any sort of paid leave. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 , U.S. workers are allowed to take up to 12 weeks leave for to tend to family or medical needs, but their absence is unpaid.

States are beginning to take more of an initiative on this front, human-resources experts say. For example, California has passed legislation for paid family leave — called the State Disability Insurance Program , which entitles employees a maximum of six weeks of partial pay per year to care for a newborn or other family matters. While U.S. companies are moving in the way of providing more family-friendly workplace policies, many currently provide alternative forms of payment through their short-term disability programs. For example, having a baby can be considered a qualifying condition for getting paid disability leave.

The release of the study was appropriately timed with discussions in Washington over whether to consider new legislation that would enforce paid leaves. On Feb. 1, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., who authored the Family and Medical Leave Act, proposed new legislation that would expand the act by providing at least six weeks of paid leave for workers. "Besides our nation's families, our nation's economy, its production, and its competitiveness are threatened when families are forced to choose between the job they need and the family they love," Dodd said in a statement announcing the legislation. "FMLA was a milestone in our nation's dialogue, acknowledging that families, workforce production and competitiveness are not mutually exclusive." [Amen to that!]

The United States also lags behind in protecting working women's right to breastfeed. At least 107 countries grant women the right to breastfeed, and in 73 of those countries, the breaks are paid, the study found. The United States does not have any protections in place for women who want to breastfeed.

[I was told, when I starting working after having the Bruzer, that I could pump in the BATHROOM! I had been using the conference room with no problems for over a month, until the pseudo-HR lady saw me coming out of there with my bag!]

The only area where U.S. job policies were more favorable compared to other countries was in regard to guaranteeing higher pay for overtime work and non-discriminatory hiring policies, researchers found. "The U.S. has been a proud leader in adopting law that provide for equal opportunity in the workplace, but our work/family protections are among the worst," Heymann said. "It's time for a change."

The Most Awesomest Thing I've Seen in a While

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ervaMPt4Ha0

This totally made me cry. Please watch it, and pass the link to everyone you know.

God Bless Our Soldiers! I may not agree with the war that Bush started, but I support our Soldiers 100%. I believe the Iraqi people deserve help too. I just wish Bush wouldn't have been such an ASS and alienated the whole world from helping us help the Iraqi people.
God Bless our Soldiers' families at home.
